Gayle L. Heesch, 57, of Fort Dodge, died Friday, October 12, 2007 at her home. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 16th at St Paul Lutheran Church with Rev. Allen Henderson officiating. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:000 p.m. Monday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home.
Surviving are her children, Richard Hopen of Orange County, CA, Steven Hopen of Fort Dodge, Alea Heesch of Fort Dodge, Peter Heesch of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Kayla, Danny, Daelan, Jason, and Alyssa Hopen; mother Doris Moorefield of St Louis, MO; brother Mark Mentzer of Tucson, AZ; sister Allison Riley of St. Louis; father-in-law Pete and his wife Pam Heesch; mother-in-law Sandy Bohn; dearest friend Geri Foster, all of Fort Dodge; and many other extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Willard and her husband Matthew in 1994.
Gayle Lee Mentzer was born January 10, 1950 in Topeka, KS. As a young girl she moved with her family to St Louis where she graduated from High School. She was united in marriage to Daniel Hopen in St. Louis. To this union, her sons Steven and Richard were born. Gayle and Dan later divorced. In 1991 she was united in marriage to Matthew D. Heesch in Las Vegas, NV and the couple lived for a period of time in the Los Angeles, CA area. They had two children together, Alea and Peter and in 1992, they moved to Fort Dodge. Gayle worked in retail most of her life and was employed at Wal-Mart in Fort Dodge for 13 years as a Department Manager. She will always be remembered as a devoted, gracious, and helpful mother and grandmother. Gayle enjoyed gardening, bowling and took great pride in the design and uniqueness of her home. Memorials may be left to St Paul Lutheran Church, the American Cancer Society, or to Fort Dodge Humane Society.
