Peter was the son of William and Margaret Northen.He married Louisa Maria Davis in 1817 and had 11 children.Peter was a self educated man a believer of education He contributed largely and was the Superintendant of the manual labor Dept of Mercer Institute. active in christian work.And for a time represented Jones county in the state legislature. Twice in his career he was in the War of 1812, and again in 1861,he raised a company of Infantry, known as Stock's Volunteers. Thus was he ever ready, even though an old man ,to serve his country amid the greatest hardships.
