About 1846 he came to Louisiana and settled near Old Pleasant Hill, Natchitoches Parish. Later his brother, George Washington, joined him. They settled near what is now known as Santaberg, about 12 miles south of Robeline, Louisiana. Reuben HOLT was a well-to-do man in the community and had several slaves.
English term "holt" which simply means "a wood" or "a grove",
