One of four children of John W. McCree, Jr. and Cora L. McCree. He was educated in the Fulton County Public Schools System, graduating from Atlanta's Booker T. Washington High School. McCree served in the armed forces during World War II. He was married to Willie Mae Mason. He departed this life at V.A. Hospital, in Oteen, N.C.
