Florence's grandmother, Rachel Church Dancy, wrote the following in a letter to her granddaughters in Alabama (Amanda and Matilda) on 24 April 1887: "This last February two of his [Alexander's] girls died with the measels[sic] and fever. They both about grown young women." (The other daughter who died was Rachel O. Dancy).
