Robert Dean "Spud" Adams, 62, Newell, SD, died Wednesday, October 3, 2007 at the Spearfish Regional Health Care Center.

Spud was born August 21, 1945, at Sturgis, SD, to Alex and Helen (Ulrich) Adams.

He married Marjorie Wood on November 14, 1964. They were in the dairy business in Newell with his brother-in-law, Norman Wood for 20 years.

They moved to Newell in 1987 and Spud worked for the South Dakota Department of Transportation for ten years. He was employed by Dalcam, delivering bulk fuel, at the time his death.

Spud was a member of the Newell Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. He was also a member of the City Council and had served as the Mayor of Newell.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a former youth softball coach in Newell.

Survivors include his 4 sons; Donald (Ramona) Adams, Newell, Ronald Adams, Cheyenne, WY, Jerry Adams, Jackson Hole, WY, Dwayne (Ruth) Adams, Buffalo, SD; grandchildren, Kayla and Tyler Adams, Wylie and Whytlie Adams, Abbie, Megan, and Sam Adams; his mother, Helen Adams, Spearfish; brothers Danny (Hazel) Adams, Spearfish, SD, Rick (Carolyn) Adams, Vale, SD; sister in law, Sherri Adams, Spearfish; brother in law, Bjorn Gloppen, Coon Rapids, MN; numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alex Adams, sister Beverly Gloppen and brother Terry Adams.

Funeral services will be Saturday October 6, 2007 at the Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis with Pastor Sean Carney officiating. Burial follows at the Hope Cemetery near Newell.
