Edwin C. Foppert, aged 63 years, retired superintendent of the Purdential Life Insurance Co., and one of Hazleton's most prominent citizens, died at his home, 812 West Diamond avenue late Saturday night after an illness of several months. The funeral will be held at the family residence on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock with services in charge of Rev. Robert Bonner Jack, and interment will be made in Mountain View cemetery. The pall bearers will be Charles L. Wilde, Alec Allen, Dr. E.F. Hanlon, John Carsgo, Dominic Saul and J.H. Lahm. Mr. Foppert was born in New York City in 1873 and at an early age entered the insurance field. He became affiliated with the Prudential Company and for 37 years was a superintendent of offices for that organization, being sent to Hazleton to assume charge of the Hazleton district in 1918. He retained the superintendency here until 1935, when he was retired. Early last year, Mr. and Mrs. Foppert left on a world tour and arrived home in October. Mr. Foppert was a member of Cornerstone Lodge F. and A.M., of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Hazleton Lodge No. 200, B.P.O.E.; Hazleton Kiwanis Club, and the Men's League, of the Presbyterian church. Surviving are his widow, Margaret B. Foppert, and three sons: Charles Foppert, of Philadelphia; Dr. Edwin C. Foppert Jr., and William J. Foppert, of Hazleton. A sister, Miss Regina Foppert, of New York City, also survives.
