Third son. Came to Columbus, Ohio with 3 brothers and 1 sister in 1870.
Drove horse drawn street car in Columbus for a few years and then went out
west. Enlisted in the U.S. Army 2 December, 1875 at a camp near Fort Buford,
Dakota Territory as a Private, Troop D, 7th Regmt, U. S. Cavalry under command of Capt. Thomas B. Weir, with the forces of Major Marcus Reno, under the command of General George Armstrong Custer.
