Civil War Union Army Officer. Served as a 1st Lieutenant in Company A, 145th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. He was killed at the Battle of Fredericksburg when his regiment, part of Winfield S. Hancock's division, participated in the doomed second assault on the Confederate positions on Marye's Heights and at the stone wall.

His body was never identified on the battlefield, and likely lies today as an "Unknown" in Fredericksburg National Cemetery.
