BBC Television journalist and music impresario. Tony Wilson founded Factory Records, making legends out of Manchester bands like Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays and A Certain Ratio. His club, the Hacienda, was one of the crucibles of rave culture. The Sex Pistols & Joy Division, Elvis Costello and the Jam were given their television debut by Wilson on his Manchester music TV show "So It Goes".
His life story became the basis of the movie "24 Hour Party People" and he was also featured in the Ian Curtis/Joy Division film "Control".
Mr. Wilson died of a heart attack at age 57 after a long battle with cancer at Christie Hospital in Manchester.
