There is a large family photo from the 1903 birthday party of Jesse H. Herrin (1838-1906). Jesse's son Fernando and brother Thomas are both in the photo. Permelia Russell Herrin is also in the photo sitting next to Jesse H. Herrin.
There is also a handwritten 1978 letter written by by Elsie May Herrin Hooten (memorial 60244520) to Elizabeth Lucinda "Bessie" Herrin in which she calls by name her grandparents (Jesse H and Permilia) and also her great grandparents (Jesse and Celia).

There are census records for Jesse Herrin being 12 in 1850, being 21 in 1860, being 31 in 1870, being 41 in 1880, and being 61 in 1900. He is listed as the son of John Herrin and Sarah Gorbet Herrin. This information is under dispute by the family as his wife Permilia added "John" as his father on this death certificate. They say that this is not correct as she was hearing impaired and was confused (thought she was adding his son, John) to the record.
Hi civil war draft registration record lists him as Jesse H Herrin, Marion Indiana, class 3, congressional district 6th, age on 1 July 1863: 24yrs.
