Mrs. Blanche Thurston Harris, widow of Eldridge Edward Harris of Faber, Va., died Saturday evening (July 4, 1964) at 7:15 p.m. in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur S. DePriest in Churchville, with whom she had made her home for the past eight months. Mrs. Harris had been in ill health for a number of years.
She was born in Nelson County at Faber, Oct. 17, 1875, a daughter of the late Charles T. and Elizabeth Pugh Thurston. Mrs. Harris was a member of the Adial Baptist Church.
Survivors include six daughters, Mrs. Milton (Stella) Turner, and Mrs. Thomas E. (Gertrude) Roberts both of Faber, Mrs. David E. (Fannie) Gochenour of Staunton, Mrs. Jess W. (Florrie) Hughs of Roseland, Mrs. Arthur S. (Ella) DePriest of Churchville, and Mrs. Roger (Myrtle) Turner of Charlottesville; and a son, Troy K. Harris of Faber. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at three o’clock in the Hamrick Funeral Home in Staunton, conducted by the Rev. Robert L. Woodson, pastor of Adial Baptist Church and the Rev. R. Carrington Paulette, D.D., pastor of the First Baptist Church of Staunton. Burial will be in Thornrose Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Robert L. Shelton, Paul Shelton, Russell Turner, Martin Turner, James Rush, Clemmer Ritchie, Mason Pickett, and Cecil Baber; honorary, Dr. Robert L. Raynor, Dr. Eugene Nolley, Willie Smith, Charles Ritchie, C. W.
