Eliese immigrated with her father from Schleswig-Holstein Germany when whe was 7 years old, after her mother had died. They settled in Batesville Indiana, then moved to Lincoln Nebraska a year later. Lizzie used to take homemade bread to the railroad workers. This is where she met her future husband Herman Hinrick Claussen.
