Lewis G. Gonzales, Jr. Our beloved Lewis "Cano" passed away after a long illness on Saturday, September 8, 2007. Lewis was born and raised in Ft. Sumner, NM. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lewis and Dommie Gonzales; brother, Max Gonzales; and sisters: Rosalie Salazar, and Gwendolyn Bearb. Lewis is survived by his children: Ronnie Lee Gonzales and wife, Rhonda of Albuquerque; Rosalie Joiner and husband, James of Ft. Sumner, NM; Daniel Gonzales of Albuquerque; Janet Lucero and husband, Nathan of Houston, TX; former spouse: Mary Ann Archuleta; one sister: Patricia Comeaux and husband, Anthony; and one brother: David Gonzales. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Justin, Ashley, Audrey, Kylie, Nathan, Isabella, and Sophia. Lewis retired after 35 years with the New Mexico State Fair. He was a member of American Legion Post 13 in which he made some lifelong friends. Lewis was a devoted family man and enjoyed cooking for his family and friends; he was known for making the best "beans, salsa and green chile stew." Lewis was a genuine father, neighbor, friend and co-worker and will truly be missed but has now been called to the Lord. A viewing for Gonzales will be Tuesday from 3-5 p.m. in the Reflection of Life Chapel (Cutler and Washington NE). Rosary will also be held Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Queen of Heaven Catholic Church, 5311 Phoenix NE. Life Celebration Mass will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at Queen of Heaven with Interment following at Ft. Sumner Cemetery in Ft. Sumner, NM. Pallbearers will be Perry Sanchez, James Garcia, Bonnie Archuleta, Frank Casaus, Robert Comeaux and Phil Delgado. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the American Legion Post 13 and his neighbors.
