PROSPECT — Mrs. Ruth Mary (Mitchell) Bacys, age 88, of 25 Royal Crest Drive, formerly of High Street in Naugatuck, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at the Marathon Health Care Center of Prospect. She was the widow of John B. Bacys.
Mrs. Bacys was born in Waterbury on Nov. 3, 1918, a daughter of the late John and Eva Mitchell. She was retired from Timex Corporation in Middlebury and also formerly worked at St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Naugatuck and was a cook at the Immaculate Conception Church in Waterbury. Mrs. Bacys was very active as a communicant of St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Naugatuck, having worked closely with Father Vita DeCarolis fundraising and coordinating efforts to build the new church and also serving as a deacon and reader at masses.
Mrs. Bacys is survived by two daughters, Nancy Alaimo of Madison and Lillian Altman of New Mexico; one brother, Alex Adaskaveg of Southington; seven grandchildren, Ruth Bruno, Theodore Potoniec Jr., Christine Lynn, Johnni-Paulette Walukas, Elizabeth Popikas, Robert Altman and Anika Altman; and four greatgrandchildren, Amanda Lynn, Olivia Lynn, Corey Potoniec and Katie Potoniec. She was predeceased by four sisters, Kathy Mitchell, Estelle Montaque, Julia Bendler and Florence Matulionis, and a brother, John Mitchell.
A private funeral Mass will be held at St. Vincent Ferrer Church in Naugatuck. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck. There are no calling hours. The Buckmiller Brothers Funeral Home, 26 Waterbury Road, Route 69, Prospect, is in charge of arrangements.
