Mrs.V. D. Rowe succumbs after short illness

Mrs. May Brister Rowe, widow of Honorable Vernon Dodds Rowe, late Chancellor of the former seventh Chancery Court District of Mississippi, died early Sunday morning at the Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital at Winona after a three day illness, at the age of 79.

Mrs. Rowe was the daughter of the late James Wiley Brister and Ella Boyd Brister, pioneer residents of Attala County, and was educated in the public schools of Greenwood before moving to Winona in 1904.

Married to Mr. Rowe, 1909 they were the parents of three children, one of whom died in infancy.

Mrs. Rowe was active in church, civic and club work up until ill health forced her to give up most of her activities in recent years.

Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Shurley Rowe Markle of Greenwood; a son, Vernon Dodds Rowe, Jr., two grandchildren, Venon Dodds Rowe, III and Miss Gail Rowe of Hendersonville, North Carolina; three sisters, Mrs. L. P. Sedberry, Winona, Mrs. Roma Staples of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Mrs. W. D. Hedleston, Jr., Gulfport; her cousins, Mrs. R. H. Wilson, Mrs. R. B. Wilburn and Dr. Sam Brister, Jr. of Greenwood and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services were conducted October 25 from the Chapel of Oliver Funeral Home with Dr. John Lee of Greenwood assisted by Rev. John Green officiating.

Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery.

Active pallbearers were Fred Watts, Clyde Dotson, Jr., Jack Groce, Henry Cato and Richard Cato of Jackson and Robert S. Salveson of Greenwood.

Honorary pallbearers were Robert Hammond, Guy Oliver, William Liston, D. E. Perry, George Flowers, M. V. (Deeks) Branch, Ed Allen, Addison Wynn, G. E. Box, Dr. Luther Crull and Arnold Hammond.
