Louisa Long was born in Albany, New York. Both of her parents were also born in the state of New York. She married Samuel Lyon in 1862.

Louisa Long Lyon was a former resident of Georgetown, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and the widow of a prominent Georgetown riverboat engineer, Samuel Lyon. She was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

Louisa resided in Pittsburgh for the last 20 years of her life. She passed away at her home, at 529 S. Winebiddle St., in the Bloomfield neighborhood of Pittsburgh.

Louisa Lyon was survived by 3 sons:
George Dawson (Anna Joetta) Lyon,
Samuel Connley (Mary Edna) Lyon; and
Robert James (Katherine Nora) Lyon;
2 daughters:
Louise Genevra Lyon and
Lavenia Hamiliton (Lee Kramer) St. Clair;
and by one sister and one brother.
She was predeceased by her husband, Samuel;
2 daughters: Mary Ellen Poe and Cora E. Johnston;
and by a son, Adison, in infancy.
