The 1867 voter registration has him listed as a farmer at Deer Creek. His two youngest children died at the Corcoran Ranch, Big Oak Flat, Tuolumne County. John had been kicked in the head by one of his horses, and died in front of the Raboul store, which would become the Iron Door Saloon. Word was sent to Sonora to bring back a doctor, and John was taken into the store, but John died before the doctor arrived.
