March 7, 1918 - June 30, 2007

SALEM - Mabel Bertha Jensen was born on March 7, 1918 on a farm on Ridgeway Drive near Turner, Oregon, the daughter of Fred P. and Lydia (Mader) Schifferer. She attended Cloverdale Grade School and graduated from Turner High School in May of 1936. She continued her education and graduated from Oregon Normal School (Western Oregon State College) in 1938 with a certificate in Elementary Education. In 1938 she began her teaching career at Roberts School which was located on River Road South. She continued her teaching career at local schools in the area, those being West Stayton and Turner Elementary. She taught a total of 28 years and retired in December of 1979.
Mabel was a member of the Turner Christian Church. Her hobbies included arts and crafts, fishing, gardening, traveling, and being with her grandchildren. She resided in the Turner area almost her entire life. Her final residence for the last 5 years was at Brookstone Alzheimer's Special Care Center, Salem.
Mabel married her high school sweetheart, Albert L. Jensen on May 15, 1939 in Salem, Oregon and they were married 65 years. Her husband died in March of 2005. She is survived by her son, Brent Jensen and wife Betty of Turner; one sister, Edith Larson of Redmond; three grandchildren, Michael and wife Shannon of Canyon City, Lisa Jensen of Marcola, and Aaron and wife Valerie of Turner; three great-grandchildren, Declan, Caleb, and Nathaniel. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Hayden; and a great-grandchild, Lachlan Jensen.
Funeral graveside services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 5, 2007 at Belcrest Memorial Park in Salem, under the direction of Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
