Louis Watts Clark, 90, a former resident of Cullowhee, NC, died October 16, 2006, in Tela, Honduras, where he has resided for over 20 years. He was buried in Tela, and a mass was performed in his memory on Oct 22, 2006, at the San Antonio Maria Clarete Catholic Church in that city.

Dr. Clark was born July 2, 1916, in Comanche, OK, a son of Erle Thweatt and Cuba J. (Miller) Clark. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1942, and a Master of Science in 1944, both from the University of Oklahoma. In 1950 he earned a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Kansas State University. He was a professor at several universities, spending most of his career at Western Carolina University where he taught from 1960 until 1978. After retiring, he moved to Honduras to teach English.

He and his first wife, Lillian (King) Clark, were the parents of eleven children, all of whom survive. There are six daughters, Julianne Stephens, Ramona Hanrahan, Rosaleen Salvo, Teresa Dutton, Mary Giles, and Jenny Brack; and five sons, Philip, Vincent, Victor, John, and Patrick. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. One brother, Michael, also survives.

His parents and three brothers, Terrence, Rex and Champ Clark preceded him in death.

The family requests that memorials be made in his name to the Women's Shelter in Sylva, REACH of Jackson County, PO BOX 1908, Sylva NC 28779

Dr. Clark was also survived by his third wife, Rose Clark, and a daughter, Mary Luisa Clark.
