Charles E. Elliott, 82, Martinsville, died at 7:15 p.m. on March 21, 2006, at Grandview Convalescent Center in Martinsville. The son of the late Esco and Jessie (Dewey) Elliott, he was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Martinsville. He was the widower of Florence Lea (Arthur) Elliott, whom he married July 11, 1945. She died March 12, 2004. Elliott was a machinist at General Motors in Indianapolis for over 36 years, retiring in 1986. He was a 1942 graduate of Martinsville High School and a member of Paragon Christian Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 230; VFW Post 1257; Martinsville Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1127; Paragon Volunteer Fire Department; Paragon Town Council and the Paragon Homecoming Committee. He was a precinct committeeman for 17 years and a Justice of the Peace for 18 years. He was appointed Honorary Baliff of the Morgan County Superior Court by Judge Nobel K. Littel. He was a veteran of the United States Navy as a torpedoman, serving during World War II. Survivors include a son, Ronald Elliott, Paragon; two grandchildren, Jennell Colwell and Ronald E. Elliott Jr., and one great-great-granddaughter. A sister, Ida Mae Hacker, also preceded him in death. The graveside service with military honors will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Friendship Park Cemetery in Paragon. The Rev. Nick Seniour will officiate. Costin Funeral Chapel in Martinsville is in charge of the arrangements.
