Thomson, Georgia - Mr. H. E. "Gene" Baggett, 76, beloved husband of Mrs. Hulinda Bagett, of Pinedale Road, died Thursday, September 2, 2004, at his residence. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, September 4, in the Westview Cemetery with Dr. George Freeman officiating. Full Masonic Rites will be observed. Mr. Baggett was a native of Augusta, but had lived in McDuffie County since 1950. He was a retired salesman with the Conwood Corporation. He was a veteran of the Merchant Marine and the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Thomson First United Methodist Church, the Thomson Lions Club, the A.J. Miller Masonic Lodge, and was a past member of the McDuffie County Civil Defense. He was a member of the Ailee Temple Shrine Club and the Scottish Rite and was a 32nd degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his son, David Eugene Baggett. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hulinda Baggett, Thomson; his daughter, Bonnie Baggett, Thomson; and his sister, Laura Norris, Evans. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jimmy Ray, Ikie Amerson, Tom Bagett, Cooper Gunby, Mark Bowers, Bruce Thompson and Gene Nelson. Memorials may be made to the Thomson First United Methodist Church. Friends may call at the residence or at the Curtis Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday night at the funeral home. (The Augusta Chronicle September 4, 2004.)
