NEWTON, Jr., James B. of Hollywood, CA. Age 45. Died 3/8/1986 after an extended illness. Graveside services held (Friday) 3/21 at the IOOF Cemetery in Rockdale. Rev. Hume W. Reeves, Vicar, St.Thomas Episcopal Church, officiated. Memorial services held at Dr. Newton's home in Hollywood at 11 a.m. Saturday. Dr. Newton taught stage design at Fresno State in the late 1960's & early 1970's. He graduated from the Univ. of Texas at Austin and received his master's and doctorate degrees in fine arts from Yale Univ. He was art director and theatrical designer for hundreds of professional concerts, television and theatre productions throughout the United States. His works were used in productions at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, at Madison Square Garden and Radio City Music Hall in New York City for numerous performers including Barbara Streisand and Neil Diamond. Dr. Newman also taught at the Univ. of Calif. at Los Angeles and the Univ. of Texas at Austin. He was a member and former acolyte at St.Thomas Church in Rockdale. He finished high school at St.Stephen's Episcopal School in Austin.
