Eugene W. "Birdie" Igou, 84, of Tyrone, formerly of Bellwood, died Friday, July 20, 2007 at Tyrone Hospital Emergency Room. He was born October 4, 1922 in Tyrone a son of the late Lester C. and Edna R. (Higley) Igou. He married Ethel V. Van Allman on August 28, 1956 in Winchester, Va. Surviving are his wife; a son: Ronald E. of Chambersburg; step-daughter: Margie A. Frye of Tyrone; seven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren and a sister: Isabelle E. Igou of Cincinnati, OH. He was preceded in death by a daughter: Ginger Farrenburg. Birdie retired in 1984 as a layout man with Berwin Railway Co. Hollidaysburg after 18 years of service. He also served 14 years as a laborer at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood and had 20 years of service as an installer at Burley Brothers Bottled Gas, Tyrone.Mr. Igou was an Army veteran serving during World War II in the European Theater. He was a sergeant with the 102nd reconicine troop mechanized unit. Birdie enjoyed bowling and sports. At the request of the deceased, there will be no viewing or visitation or funeral services. Interment at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
