French King. Eldest son of Louis and his first wife Ansgarde of Burgundy. Upon the death of his father and grandfather, he and his brother split West Francia (the precursor to the Kingdom of France). He ruled over West Francia that included Paris, his brother Carolina controlled the southern portion. He was crowded in September 879 at Ferrieres Abbey. In 881, he finally halted the ongoing Viking raids by defeating them at the Battle of Saucourt en Vimey. His victory was celebrated in a short poem "Ludwigslied" which cemented the King's popularity with the people. His brother then became sole king after his sudden death.
