Evelyn Virginia Bird Canterbury

Evelyn Virginia Bird Canterbury, 86, of Bluefield, Va., was dead on arrival at Bluefield Regional Medical Center on Sunday, May 21, 2006.
She was born in West Virginia and was a daughter of the late James Oswald and Ella Wheeler Bird.
She was a former resident of the Berwind Briquet Camp section in Berwind. She was a lifelong Christian, was a former member of the Berwind United Methodist Church and a member of the Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church in Bluefield, Va. She was also a past member of the Order of Eastern Star.
She was the wife of the late Ralph Kellis Canterbury Sr., and sister of the late Paul Kenton Bird.
Survivors include two sons, Ralph Kellis Canterbury Jr. of Damascus, Ark. and Richard Norris Canterbury of the residence, 313 Hillcrest Dr., Bluefield, VA 24605-1601; two daughters, Linda Kay Canterbury Cox of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Rena Haynes Gibson of Chincoteague Island, Va.; two sisters, Clarice Mildred Bird Cook of Martinsville, Va. and Eula Faye Branson of Beckley; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
A Christian funeral service will be held Friday, May 26, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church with the Rev. Terry Goodman officiating. Mrs. Canterbury will be interred at the Grandview Memory Gardens in Bluefield, Va.
Pallbearers will be close neighbors, Don Darlington, Joe Johnson, Dave Bowles and grandsons, David Canterbury, Robert Haynes and Gary Haynes.
An opportunity to say good-bye to Mrs. Canterbury and share memories of her and offer condolences to the family may be between 7 and 9 p.m. Thursday night at the Dudley Memorial Mortuary.
Flowers are accepted or memorial gifts may be given to the Virginia Avenue United Methodist Church or to any worthy cause.
