Maurice W. Boyers, 83, Paris' oldest active printer and partner in Boyers Printing Company, died Sunday about 10:30 a.m. in a Honey Grove nursing home, where he had been admitted a day or two earlier. He had been in failing health some time.
The funeral, Tuesday at 10 a.m. will be held at Fry and Gibbs chapel by the Rev. John Shuler and the Rev. Ray Starnes of First Methodist church, of which Mr. Boyers was a member. Burial will be made in Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Boyers, who lived here at 954 Lamar Ave., leaves his wife; a son, James R. (Jimmie) Boyers, Paris, and a daughter, Mrs. Carl Moore, Mountain Lakes, N.J., and three grandsons, besides a sister, Mrs. Ida Hill, Dallas.
Son of the late R. H. and Martha (Carter) Boyers, he was born in Tennessee, 24 Nov 1873, coming to Texas with his parents when he was eight years old.
In Paris, he attended Mrs. Vesey's private school and public schools. He became associated with the late J. G. Marshall in the commercial printing business, which with his brother, the late E. A. Boyers, he later bought, and established Boyers Printing Company. When his brother died Maurice Boyers' son became a partner with him and the firm name was changed to Boyers Printing Company.
Maurice Boyers married Miss Sue Hale, 7 Dec 1899.
He had been a member of the Paris Typographical Union since 1907, belonged to the Chamber of Commerce, was a charter director of the Centennial Life Insurance Company and member of the Praetorian Lodge and Knights of Pythias. He was a member of old Centenary Methodist Church, later transferring membership to Lamar Avenue Church, and upon merger of the two congregations, continued on the rolls of the new First Methodist Church, serving long as a member of the official board.
