Private family graveside services for Barbara Malan McLean, 60, Nashville, Tenn., will be Friday at Galum Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Pinckneyville, Ill. Memorial services will be held later in Lawrence.

Mrs. McLean died Monday from cancer at Stormont-Vail Regional Medical Center in Topeka.

She was born Feb. 6, 1929, at Pinckneyville and graduated from Harrisburg, Ill., High School. She later attended Park College in Parkville, Mo., and received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Indiana University in 1951. She received a master's degree in English from Kansas University in 1965.

Mrs. McLean began her career as editor of publications for the Indiana Bankers Assn. She also taught English at Highland Park, Perry and Lawrence high schools and was an English instructor at KU in the early 1960s.

She also worked for the KU bureau of child research and as coordinator of instructional design for Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Mrs. McLean published more than 100 books, articles and instructional packages on higher education, special education and nursing education. She was also a poet.

She married James E. McLean in 1950. They were divorced in 1971.

Survivors include her father, William R. Malan, Minneapolis, Kan.; two sons, James M., Topeka, and Thomas A., Parsons; and five grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to the Topeka Association for Retarded Citizens or the American Cancer Society.
