Statesman. One of the framers of the Norwegian constitution and a leader in negotiations leading to the 1814 Convention of Moss, the important peace agreement with Sweden that resulted in the union of Norway and Sweden, Collett served on the Norwegian Council of State Division in Stockholm from 1821 until 1822 and led the Norwegian Cabinet as First Minister between 1822 and 1829. He ran the government for most of the period between the death of Governor Baltzar von Platen in 1829 and leaving office in 1836. Late in life Collett married the much-younger Camilla Wergeland, feminist writer and sister of activist poet Henrik Wergeland.
