Joseph A. Abdella, 78, of 208 Clinton Rd., New Hartford died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Faxton-St. Luke's Healthcare.

He was born August 31, 1928, in New Hartford, a son of the late Charles and Mary Abraham Abdella. He graduated from New Hartford High School in 1947 where he enjoyed basketball and track.

He married Samia Chakhtoura in 1971 in Beirut, Lebanon.

He was the owner and operator of Abdella's Fruit and Vegetable Market in New Hartford for over 50 years. Mr. Abdella was a member of both St. Louis Gonzaga Church in Utica and St. Thomas Catholic Church in New Hartford. He enjoyed farming and traveling to visit family.

Besides his loving wife, he leaves a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Abdella Szuplat and Terry Szuplat of Arlington, VA; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles and Dr. Haneen Yasin Abdella of Miami, FL and Anibal Abdella of New Hartford and his fiance, Diana LaMattina of Syracuse; two grandchildren, Jack and Claire Szuplat; a sister, Delia Baz of Clinton, several nieces, nephews, cousins, great nieces and great nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Virginia Kamide and a brother-in-law, Anthony Baz. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Utica Observer Dispatch, June 27, 2007
