He is best known for winning the Seniors' PGA Championship in 1978. At the 1991 PGA GTE Northwest Classic, he became the youngest player to shoot his age or lower in a Senior event. In 1995, at the Ameritech Senior Open, he shot 10-under 62, setting a pro record for lowest score in relation to age. He is the holder of several Georgia-Pacific Grand Champion records.
