Gus Thomas, 70, of Route 2, Brandenburg, died Friday, April 27, at Sts. Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, Louisville. Mr. Thomas was born Aug. 6, 1919, the son of Ruben Sanford and Mary Magdalene Benham Thomas.

He was a 40 year member of International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 181, and a veteran of World War II. Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by a daughter, Angela Gail Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Helen Benham Thomas; two children, Michael Gus Thomas, Vine Grove, and Mrs. Michelle Lynn Lucas, Brandenburg; a sister, Mrs. Sylvia Pack, Brandenburg; a brother, John Thomas, Brandenburg; four grandchildren, Carrie Ann Lucas, Terri Lynn Lucas, David Michael Lucas and Michael Shane Thomas.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the chapel of Hager Funeral Home with the Rev. Wade Bibb officiating. Burial was in New Brandenburg Baptist Church Cemetery.
