Newton Fonda of Mayfield, Dead at 91 - Gloversville - Newton J Fonda, 91, of RD, Mayfleld, a retired glove cutter died at 3:30 a.m. yesterday at the Hillcrest nursing home, Johnstown, where he had been a patient six years. Born in Kingsboro, NY, on May 30, 1865, he was a resident of Mayfleld for 70 years. Fonda was a charter member of the Mayfleld volunteer fire department. His death leaves only one surviving charter member of the department. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Violet Trevett and Mrs. Beatrice Blackinger of Gloversville, and Mrs. Bessie Duell of Albany; two sons, Nelson Fonda of Gloversville and Justin Fonda of Mayfleld; one sister, Mrs. Lillian Demmlng of Fulton Ave; five grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the Kennedy funeral home with Rev. Kenneth Wait of the Mayfleld Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Mayfleld Cemetery.
