Ma Ben, as we called her was a tiny woman with a dynamic personality. She could feed a huge crowd, and do so with charm and a smile. She lived in what I thought was a really amazing home. It had a porch on three sides, and there were no hallways inside the house. Rooms opened onto rooms and all of them, but the scary room in the middle of the house, opened up onto the porch. The room in the middle of the house was a library, and there were always men in there smoking cigars or pipes. I thought it was scary because it was so dark. Ma Ben let me ring the bell for dinner, and one summer she gave me the bell to keep. I still have it.

Maggie May Albritton married Benjamin P. Albritton on March 6, 1899 in Pike Co., Mississippi. Pa Ben was a banker with the First National Bank of McComb, Mississippi. At one time, each bank made it's own paper money, which I did not know until my father showed me some of the original money he still had that had been made by First National Bank of McComb.

Thank you Ma Ben for teaching me to embrace large family gatherings and to love setting the big table.
