"BREWSTER, LUCRETIA 'DRUSY' UHL
1848-July 17, 1882
Age 34 Years
Lucretia 'Drusy', one of the earliest lady settlers of the San Juan, died suddenly and unexpectedly, her death coming like a blow to her many friends. No details were given regarding the cause of her sudden death; childbirth would be one likely possibility. Left to mourn her loss were her husband and three children (from her former marriage to Philip Uhl)...Lucretia's largely attended funeral was held at the church the day after her death. Her casket was transported to the cemetery by wagon, and George Ingersoll paid the funeral costs of $38.00.
'Drusy' was the former Mrs. Philip Uhl. Philip, a miner, was killed in a February 1879 snowslide, two months before the birth of their daughter. There were also two older Uhl children, Elna and Leonard. About two years later, on September 6, 1881, Drusy Uhl and Lorenzo Brewster were married in Silverton by Justice of the Peace C.S. York. Drusy died ten months later..."
