James Adrian Ball
James Adrian Ball was born in Clinton County, Indiana, July 27, 1847. He passed out of this life at his home on East Main Street, Tuesday evening, June 15, 1920, at 5:30.
He grew into manhood under the hardships, privations and meager opportunities for an education.
When but a boy, in the dark year of his country's struggle for the life, he answered the call and was unrolled in Co. D. 72nd Infantry, December 12, 1873. He served faithfully and bravely until the battle was won, and was honorably discharged May 31, 1885.
October 7, 1874 he was married to Cynthia E. Lame Sands, and to this union were born 2 daughters, Bertha and May, Bertha passed away in infancy.
January 28, 1876, he gave his heart to the Lord, and connected himself with the Methodist Church, and has lived a faithful Christian life to his death. Several days before his passing to the spirit world he expressed his willingness and wish to go, and told his wife and daughter that the room was filled with his friends from the other side of life.
His whole life is an open book to this community, industrious and energetic in boyhood, brave and patriotic in battle, true and devoted in domestic life, trustworthy and honorable in public service, his long life has rounded out into true citizenship and faithful service. His life work is finished and well done and he quits this tabernacle of dust and his spirit passes into the spirit world as peacefully as a child falls to sleep.
His wife, daughter, son-in-law and many friends mourn his departure. His neighbors and friends gathered around his bier with tokens and respect, and his body was carried away to the Old Cemetery to rest.
