Franklin Patton Kirkpatrick was born on November 20th, 1840 in Haywood County, North Carolina to Bennett Kirkpatrick and Nancy Lovell. Franklin married Minerva Elizabeth Boyd and had three children. When the war came, Franklin enlisted as a private in Company E of the 16th Arkansas Infantry on October 19th, 1861 at Carrollton. He served with the unit until the surrender at Port Hudson, Louisiana on July 9th, 1863. He was paroled July 12th or 13th, 1863. After the war, he returned home and raised his family. Franklin died at the age of 84 on December 2nd, 1924.
