ST. GEORGE, UT -- Ilene Lowe Blake, 85, of St. George, Utah passed away peacefully June 27, 2004.

She was born April 18, 1919 in Parowan, Utah to Genevieve Ward and Ernest Isaac Lowe. She married LaVer Terry Blake September 1, 1939 in St. George, Utah. They were later sealed July 16, 1954 in the St. George Temple.

Ilene was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, niece and friend. She was a member of the LDS church and had many callings and was a valiant servant. Her favorite calling was her mission with her sweetheart. They served in Ohio and due to Laver's illness finished their mission in the St. George Temple. LaVer passed away shortly after their return and Ilene was left alone. It was very hard for her but she carried on valiantly.

She and LaVer loved to bowl and later they found great joy in golfing and following their son Jay Don on the Professional Golf Tour.

Ilene had a great sense of humor and was a joy to be around. She was a woman of great love and devotion to her family.

She is survived by her children, Muriel Blake, Richard (Margarett) Blake, Ward (Dopie) Blake, JoAnn (Neal) Matheson, Verlene (Vee) Blake, Rick (Debbie) Blake, Jay Don (Marci) Blake; 25 grandchildren; 36 great grandchildren; brothers, Lynn, Alma, Ward and Merrill; sisters, Beatrice and Vera; and sister-in-law, Helen Blake. She is preceded in death by her eternal companion, LaVer; her children Verla Jean and Karl; her sisters, Florence and Alberta; and her brothers, Howard and William.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the wonderful care given to her by the Red Cliffs Rehabilitation Center and by the caring people of the hospice. We would also like to thank the Relief Society and Stake presidency for the branch there. Thank you to the Washington Fields 3rd Ward and to all who have helped Ilene make this transition in comfort and peace.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 2, 11 a.m., Washington Fields 3rd Ward Chapel, 1867 South Washington Fields Road. Visitations will be held Thursday, July 1, 6-8 p.m., Metcalf Mortuary, 300 W. St. George Blvd. and Thursday, 9:30-10:30 a.m., prior to the services at the chapel. Interment will be in the St. George City Cemetery under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary (435) 673-4221. Condolences may be sent through their Web site at www.metcalfmortuary.com.
