Major League Baseball Player. Born in Louisville, Kentucky, he was a right handed pitcher dubbed the Cannonball, making his debut with the Philadelphia Athletics on May 2, 1887. For fourteen seasons, he played with the Philadelphia Athletics (1887-89, 1891-95), Brooklyn Ward's Wonders in 1890, Louisville Colonels in 1896, Washington Senators (1898-99), St. Louis Cardinals in 1900 and Cincinnati Reds in 1901. He ended his career with seven 20 or more win seasons, one no hitter, with a record of 264 wins, 232 losses, 449 complete games, 28 shutouts, 1667 strike outs and a 3.88 earned run average. He died at age 88 in Louisville, Kentucky.
