Son of Henry & Catherine (Dearinger) Hendricks. Husband of Elizabeth (Dearinger) & Linda M.C. (Buchanan). His first wife Elizabeth was his first cousin in two ways, both by his mother and his father. He married her 9-19-1822 in Woodford County, Kentucky. After she died he married Linda (daughter of Levi Buchanan), who was 15 at the time, on 8-9-1826 in Woodford County, Kentucky. They had 14 children together, right up until his death at age 46 years, 4 months and 21 days. Eight of the children are buried in the Buchanan Cemetery, all but one dying in childhood, the other after giving birth for the first time. Most of the family could not read or write, including John.

John was one of the first settlers of the area and owned land next to the cemetery, passing it on to his only surviving son, Milton. Milton soon sold the land back to his mother's family and moved to Brown township, Hendricks County, Indiana, where he established a home and family and became a well respected member of society.

Three of John's young grandchildren from his daughters are buried in the Buchanan Cemetery as well.
