Polish Nobility. King of Poland from 1333 until his death in 1370. He was also known as Casimir the great the only ruler of Poland to use that title. The son of King Wladyslaw I the Elbow High and his wife Jadwiga of Gniezno and Greater Poland. A great reformer of Polaish civil and criminal law. He founded the University of Krakow. Casimir was well liked by thwe Jewish population of Poland and gave them many rights that had been taken away by previous rulers. The Jewish Quarter of Krakow, known as Kazimierz, was named after him. Having five daughters and no legitimate male heir to the throne his nephew King Louis I of Hungary succeded him. His likeness is on the 50 Zloty bank note.∼Casimir or Kazimierz III the Great. He was born in Kowal, Kuyavia, Poland . He founded University of Kraków on May 12, 1364.
