Marietta Journal - Our community was shocked and saddened by the news of Mr. J. D. Benson's death. He was born and reared here and resided near here till his removal to Marietta some years ago. He was one of the best men we ever knew, a leader in everything that tended to the upbuilding of the church and the community. We shall miss his tender hand clasp, his pleasant face, but the influence of his gentle life will live as long as we do.

John was the son of Robert McCoy Benson and Mary Catherine Latimer/Benson. They were married 9/10/1871 in Cobb County, Georgia. They had 6 children. Their son Wm. Luther and Dr. Warren Edgar Benson are both also buried here.
