Lucy Philena Canfield was the daughter of Elizabeth Storey DePew and David Canfield.

She first married Thomas Carlos Emett October 13, 1873 in the Endowment House in Salt Lake City, Utah.

They had 5 children, Don Thomas, David Carlos "CARL", Olive Philena, Elsie and Alice Lillian. Thomas went on a business trip to Arizonia and Mexico. He contracted smallpox and died. His saddle and spurs were sent home. Her family came and took her home to Enterprise to be around family to help her.

She married second John Day Sr. on November 5, 1888.They had 3 more children, John Jr and Henry (twins) and Emma.
