Ellis -- Anna Bongartz, 88, died Saturday, May 31, 1997, at the Trego County Long Term Care Unit, WaKeeney. She was born April 17, 1909, in Ellis County to George and Rose (Becker) Lang.

She married William Bongartz Oct. 30, 1928, in Ellis.

She was a homemaker, and she and her husband had farmed southwest of Ellis. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Daughters of Isabella, and the Live and Learn EHU, all of Ellis, and she had been a member of the board of Sunflower School, southwest of Ellis.

Survivors include two sons, George and Robert, both of Ellis; three daughters, Christina Bollig, WaKeeney, Anna Marie Davidson, Cloverdale, Ore., and Betty Lou Honas, Council Grove; four sisters, Josephine Ptaschek, Catherine Ptaschek, Elizabeth Younker, and Eleanor Roberts, all of Ellis; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, on Oct. 29, 1991, and by one son, William Jr., on May 27, 1986.

Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Ellis, with Father Galen Long officiating; burial in church cemetery. A Daughters of Isabella rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, followed at 7:30 p.m. by a parish wake service, both at Wasinger Funeral Chapel, Ellis. Visitation at the funeral home is from 2 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Memorials are suggested to the church or to Trego County Long Term Care Unit.
