Robert (Robb) formed his first country music band in 1991 in San Diego, California, after a two year stint in the Navy, on board the USS CONSTELLATION.
He named his band Charleston County for his hometown of Charleston, South Carolina. Singing in Country Music Clubs around San Diego for a year, he went to Mexico where he performed at the El Rodeo Campest re, in Guadalajara.
Upon returning to San Diego in January 1994, He left his band and with his wife moved to Nashville to further his music career. Shortly after arriving in Nashville, Robb and his wife Kelli were found murdered in a Nashville Motel. The Murderer was caught, but never went to trial due to his suicide.
Kelli is buried in the San Marcos Cemetery, San Marcos, California

After his parents divorced, Robbie and his older brother, Ray were adopted by their step-father David A Phillips, Sr.
