James M. Fonda, 86, a former grocer of Johnstown, died in the Memorial Hospital in that city yesterday afternoon. He had been a patient there for the past six weeks. Mr. Fonda was born in the Town of Perth October 30, 1851, the son of Cornelius and Sarah Gonsalus Fonda. After spending his early life as a farmer he went to Johnstown and established a grocery store. He had been in poor health for some time and suffered the loss of his eyesight about six years ago. His wife, Elizabeth Sweet, died February 7, 1932. The survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Andrew J. Brookhelser; one grandson, one granddaughter, one sister, Mrs. Margaret Lake, and a brother, Edwin L. Fonda, all of Johnstown, together with several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, at Johnstown. Interment will be in Fern Dale Cemetery.
