"Mac" Fonda, a farmer residing near Mayfield, was found drowned in the creek on the Vlaie road today. Coroner Phillips was notified this afternoon and left immediately to take charge of the case. Gloversville NY Daily Leader, Friday, August 23, 1895.
The investigation concerning the death of Mac Fonda... An autopsy was performed last night by Drs. Ilagar and Goodfellow of this city, the physicians reporting that death was due to heart disease. The unfortunate man was probably walking near the creek when he was stricken and fell into the water, which, at the spot where he was found, was only five inches deep and had nothing to do with the cause of death. At the inquest three witnesses were sworn, and the jury rendered a verdict that Marcus D. Fonda came to his death from organic disease of the heart.
