MARGARET MARIA ELIZABETH "LIZZIE" FULTON BELLOMY GREGG

No marker; dousing shows two adult females buried next to John Flat's grave, which appear to be his wives, Mary Jane Page and Maria Bellomy-Fulton. Crosses now mark their burial locations.

Birth year shown as 1852 in some family notes; 1850 is shown in cemetery records.

Known as Maria in later years
Also called "Lizzie".

Born in MO, Father from VA or TN, Mother from S.C.

m1: David Lloyd Bellomy (1850-1875) Jan 22 1871, Henry Co MO. He was son of Joel Franklin and Matilda (Rigg) Bellomy. Their children,
-William "Will" Fleming 1872-1948/KS m: Effie Viola Hoobler, ch Ocie Elizabeth, John Allen Orville Robert, Effie Ellen; m2: Mrs. Martha Carolyn "Carrie" Bilyea, ch William Blake, Sarah Lucille, LeRoy Delbert.

m2: John Flat Gregg June 10* 1880. He was son of Daniel and Mary Gregg, and widower of Mary Jane Page.
Their children:
1) Dora (Mar 1881- )
2) Clara (7/28/1884- )
3) Minnie A. (Jul 1885- )
4) John Samuel (Mar 1887-1939/Coffeeville KS)

Maria (widow) and her son were in the home of her father-in-law, Joel Bellomy, for the 1880 census taken June 4 & 5 1880. Her marriage to John Flat was a few days later on June 10* 1880 in the home of Joel Bellomy. It is not known, but presumed, that she brought her son to the marriage. Marriage record is shown on-line, MO. Marriage Records 1805-2002, as Mrs. Lizzie Belleman and John Gregg, but an examination of the document, tho extremely faint, shows her name as Bellomy. It also states the marriage was June 6, altho the document appears to be "tenth of June". It was filed for record June 15 1880.

1880 census, Bogard, Henry Co MO: BELLOMY, Joel F/66/OH/VA/MD/widower, Alice J/KY/OH/OH, Lucretia J/23/MO, Rozell T/19/MO, Melville M/16/MO, Elizabeth/26/MO/TN/SC/dau-in-law/widow, Edwin/9/MO/OH/MO/grandson, William F/8/MO/OH/MO/grandson.
{note, the grandon Edwin was Edwin Rufus, son of Leonidis whose wife died 1875.)

1900 census, Benton, Polk Co MO: GREGG, John/54/Jun 1845/MO/OH/OH, Maria E/48/Jan 1852/MO/VA/SC, Dora/19/MO/Mar 1881; Minnie A/14/MO/Jul/1885, John S/13/MO/Mar/1888. Dau Clara (who would be abt 16) not with family, may have married. John and Maria have been married 20 years

Maria reported having 4 children, all living, in the 1900 census - A puzzle as there are five known children from her combined marriages. It is assumed her answer was for only the children of her current marriage with John Flat. It is also possible the daughter, Clara, had died young and was not counted.

An on-line family tree gives her DOD as Nov 9 1898, place as Jackson Co MO (which is often a Kansas City hospital).
Since she is in the 1900 census, that is obviously in error.

Maria is buried near her husband, John Flat Gregg, who has a military marker. A daughter, Nancy, from his 1st marriage is on one side of his marker and a large space on the other side has no visible markers where his first wife, Mary Jane, and Maria appear to be. Cemetery records indicate they are in the same row but does not identify the grave locations.
