Visitation for Edward R. Bloom, 85, will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Service is planned for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Private burial will be at the Wayside Cemetery.

Mr. Bloom, who was born in New Westminster, British Columbia, died Friday.

His family moved to North Spokane when he was a child.

He worked for the McGoldrick Lumber Co., until he was called into active duty in the Army in 1942. Mr. Bloom worked for an electro-metallurgical plant until it closed. He sold insurance, then worked as a steam-boiler operator for Pacific Northwest Alloys. After he received a steam operator's license, he served as superintendent of the boiler house.

He served as president of the Deer Park Fair in 1969 and 1970. Mr. Bloom managed the Conestogo Flea Market at the Half Moon Grange, and the Deer Park Fairground and Auction, and the Ice Chalet at the Five Mile Shopping Center.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Thelma; a son, Earl Bloom of Los Altos, Calif.; three daughters, Kathy Millick and Joleen Bloom, both of Spokane, and Bonnie Pierce of Vancouver, Wash.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wayside Community Center.
