Settler, homesteader, first to settle the area now known as Bearmouth, Montana. According to family stories, John traded his Helena mining claim for a cow and began a ferry service across the Clark Fork River for travelers on the Mullan Road. Originally from Meath County Ireland, John and his wife Bridget came to the US around 1865. Moving westward from Kansas, the Lannens' moved to Independence, MO and to Montana.
